- <p>Its origins lie in mediaeval plays in which <strong>devils and beasts danced in the firelight, entranced by the constant beat of drums</strong>. The <em>Patum </em>does not just consist of groups and dances, known in Catalan as <em>salts</em> (leaps), but also of all the people who come together to dance in Plaça de Sant Pere. It is when the square is absolutely jam-packed that the feelings of mystery, joy, passion and belonging all combine. This is the special way of celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi in Berga.</p>
